Steve's Blog

I try to use this blog to record something about my life everyday.

My Photo
Name:
Location: Little Rock, Arkansas, United States

On December 31, 2007 I left my job with Sprint/Embarq where I worked as a Software Engineer for 15 years at the Sprint Campus in Kansas City. In January 2008 Mary and I started Steve Brown Ministries and started traveling the United States broadcasting "Live Video" of Revivals, Bible Conferences, Mission Conferences, and other Special Services. Mary and I enjoy serving the Lord Jesus Christ and traveling to churches as we minister through SteveBrownMinistries.com. We are very pleased that our ministry is endorsed and we are sent out of our home church at Heritage Baptist Temple in Little Rock, Arkansas.

Missed Church

We looked out at the white road in front of the house this morning and decided to stay home. We watched the live service on the internet and then we caught the live service of North Valley Baptist Church in Santa Clara, CA. It was fantastic. We enjoyed the being at Heritage this evening. The message was just what we needed.

Ice - A Good Reason to Stay Home

There must have been over 20 people sledding down the hill in front of our house today. Mary and I stayed by the fire again today.

Winter At Home

While Mary and I enjoyed a warm house my brother and his clan were out in front of our house sledding down the hill. Looked like fun but we enjoyed watching them.

Unusual Day - We Stayed Home

I don't know why but today we did not get out of the house. We just didn't have anywhere we needed to go. I shipped a cd to a preacher in Eldorado using PayPal. I worked on my 4 router/repeater setup for those situations where we have to access the Internet at some distant location. And then Mary has got me hooked on playing Farmville on Facebook as if I don't have a million other things I need to be doing.

Tripp-Lite PV700HF Power Inverter

I finished the install this afternoon of our 700 watt Power Inverter in the van. It was much more work than I thought it would be. Glad that's done. Now we can better enjoy our mobile office while we travel to meetings around the country.

Colonoscopy

This morning I had a colonoscopy. Dr. Smart said I did not have any problems. Everything looked normal. That is wonderful news. Thank you Lord.

I spent the afternoon running 4 gauge wire in our van to hook up an inverter to run our portable office while we travel. That project turned out to be a lot of work. I did this in our old green Dodge van years ago but I must have forgotten how much work it was.

WiFi Repeaters Working Over Half Mile

I did it. The ultimate test of my new Netgear WNDR3700 Routers setup as repeaters. One as the base station plugged into a router with internet acess. The other working in repeater mode picking up the base station a half mile away and then a DLink Router plugged into the repeater which serves the internet to all my wireless and wired computers. This is great! Maybe now I won't have to run hundreds of feet of wire across parking lot or through the woods to get to the internet for our broadcast.

PHP Coding For Heritage Baptist Temple

Every once in a while my past life at Sprint in Kansas City comes back and I have to do some coding. My brother does the web pages for our church and needed some help with archiving the video and audio files for the church. I reworked some code from my website and it seems to be ready for implementation.

Netgear Wifi Repeaters Is Easy

Now that I have spent many hours working with the two Netgear WNDR3700 Routers, setting them up to function as repeaters is easy. I hope this will allow me to hookup most church internet routers with ease. Even if it's across the parking lot in another building.

Netgear WNRD3700 Repeater

I spent most of the evening trying to make two Netgear WNRD3700 Routers talk to each other. One as the Base Station and the other as a repeater. I have to go to bed and it's still not working. I hope I do not loose sleep over this thing. It's about to whip me.

A Day In Town

We went to town (Little Rock, Arkansas) today and tried to catch-up on things like: Fire Department(pick up weather radio), Post Office, Physical Therapy, Waffle House, Bank, Drug Store, Wal-Mart, Sam's, Carlton Bates, NAPA, Sonic, and Best Buy. I thought we would never get done and back home.

Wireless Cable

I have been studying this evening how to extend a CAT5 wire accross a parking lot wirelessly. I think I have it figured out. I have a Linksys WAP54G Wireless Access Point. If I buy another WAP54G I can configue it in Repeater mode and it will talk to the Access Point that is connected to the internet with a wire to a DSL modem. Then accross the parking lot I can pick up the internet with the repeater and continue on with my CAT5 wire to my WiFi router where I can connect several computers with CAT5 and WiFi. I think it will work. WOW!

Glasses for Mary

Mary's glasses were so fogged up she could hardly read. She has been struggling for many weeks trying to see. She could not see to drive at night. Today I took her to the glass place in Park Plaza. It cost us dearly but now she can see again. She said everything is bright now. Now she can help me drive again at night on these long trips.

Supper with Master Logan

Scott, Lacey and Logan joined us for supper at the Super King Buffet in North Little Rock tonight. I ate too many crawfish while Logan slept. We enjoyed our time with Scott and Lacey.

Warning Ticket

We did not get away from Houston, Texas until a little after 3:00 p.m. this evening. We did not take I45 to Dallas and then home. Instead we took the shortcut on US59. It seemed like we hit a little town every 5 or 10 miles and the speed limit dropped. I don't remember where but I did not realize it and I did not slow down quick enough. We were very attentively listening to the live church service on my laptop from Heritage Baptist Temple when the state trooper pulled me over and gave me a warning ticket. Thank the Lord for warning tickets. It didn't cost anything and does not affect my insurance. I was more careful after that.

Pappadauex Seafood Kitchen

Mary and I spent a very hard day packing and loading our equipment at Shady Acres Baptist Church here in Houston, Texas. When the work was done we went to Pappadauex's Seafood Kitchen and enjoyed a Seafood platter. I think we over did it, but it was very good.

Last Night of the Winter Campmeeting

We enjoyed the final day of the Winter Campmeeting at the Shady Acres Baptist Church in Houston, Texas. They worked us to death this afternoon making DVD's and CD's. It seemed like everybody wanted a DVD album of the entire campmeeting. We ran out of albums. That's a first.

A Nap

I was so tired that I did the unthinkable. I went to the motel and took a nap this afternoon. I hope I don't make a habit of this.

Beautiful Homemade Quilt

The ladies at Shady Acres Baptist Church made us a most beautiful quilt and gave it to us tonight. What a privilege to serve our Lord. God's blessings just keep coming. We certainly have our share of life's problems but God is always good to us. Much more than we ever deserve. Thank you Lord for your blessings and thank you ladies for the beautiful quilt.

Praise and Worship

The second half of the Winter Camp Meeting at Shady Acres Baptist Church was a little different tonight. I think the pastor planned to have another preacher. Before the preacher he asked the Gary Lutrick Family to sing a couple songs. The people started coming to the alter in response to the singing so they just kept singing. After nearly an hour the pastor closed the service and we never did have the second preacher. It was a great night to be at the camp meeting.

Kids Running the Isles

The First Camp Meeting service tonight at the Shady Acres Baptist Church in Houston, Texas was a little different. During the first few songs all the kids were running laps around the auditorium. I never have seen anything like it. The Kids were very quite during preaching. I guess they were worn out.

Christchurch Baptist Fellowship

We have wanted to visit Dr. Johnny Pope's church in Houston, Texas for a long time. This morning was our opportunity to visit Christchurch Baptist Fellowship. It is a fabulous church plant and we certainly enjoyed the message by our friend Dr. Rene' Freret. After church Bro. Johnny and his wife took us all out to lunch at one of their favorite restaurants in Houston, Pappadeaux Seafood Kitchen. The food was kind of Cajun and very good.

Hello Houston

Some of the men at Twin Cities' Baptist Temple helped up pack and load our equipment today which took a big load off me. We left Wake Village, Texas about 7:00 this evening and pulled into our motel in Houston, Texas a little after midnight.

Preaching Morning, Afternoon, and Night

Our first session of the BEAMS Bible Conference at the Twin Cities' Baptist Temple in Wake Village, Texas started at 9:00 a.m. this morning. We had a short break for lunch and then more preaching this afternoon. The fed us a very nice supper about 5:30 p.m. and then we started the night session at 7:00 p.m. We did not get back to our room until about 11:30 tonight. Then we stayed up archiving all the preaching on our website. Needless to say it's been a very long and tiring day but it was also a very enjoyable day.

Dr. Sam Davison Preaching

We had the opportunity to hear Dr. Sam Davison preach tonight. He is one of America's great preachers and we had never heard him before. We enjoyed our night at the BEAMS Bible Conference at the Twin Cities' Baptist Temple in Wake Village, Texas.

A Hard Day Ended with Good Preaching

I spent a hard day setting up our video equipment at Twin Cities' Baptist Temple in Wake Village, Texas. It was kind of hard getting back in the groove. We have been off the road since our son Lee passed away the first of December. We were ready for the Live Broadcast tonight and enjoyed a great message by Dr. Rene' Freret from Gulfport, Mississippi.

On The Road Again

We spent most of the day trying to get all our stuff together so we could leave town. It was 5:00 p.m. before we got it all together and we were able to leave home. We made it to Malvern and thought we had to stop and eat supper. We finally got to our destination in Wake Village, Texas a little after 8:00 p.m. The Twin Cities' Baptist Temple put us up in a very nice place with all the things we need for a comforable week.

More Theophilos Audio Bible Problems

After trying in vain to find the TrueSpeech Files needed for Theophilos audio Bible I sent an email to Theophilos Audio support. They sent me a link that works. My old step 2 below no longer works. At least today it does not work. I have added Step 2A in case Step 2 does not work.

Here are the steps:

1. Install the latest free version of Theophilos from Theophilos.com into the default folder. In my case that is "C:\Program Files\theo30".

2. Install the TrueSpeech files described in the Theophilos Audio Bible FAQ.

2A. A new link to retrieve the TrueSpeech Files.

3. Copy the Scourby folder from the Theophilos Audio Bible CD into the "C:\Program Files\theo30" folder. You should then have a "C:\Program Files\theo30\scourby" folder.

4. Copy these two files from the Theophilos Audio Bible CD into the "C:\Program Files\theo30" folder.
theocd.inf
verses1.nar

5. Start Theophilos and set "Data files path" in
Program-->Settings-->Paths to
"C:\Program Files\theo30".

6. Close Theophilos and Start it again. You can now do "Verse Sound" or "Auto Play" in Theophilos 3.1.6.

Great Day In God's House

Mary and I attended both services today at our home church at Heritage Baptist Temple in Little Rock, Arkansas. Our Interim Pastor, Brother Paul Davis did an outstanding job with both sermons. I wish we could vote him in as permanent pastor.

Got The Chevy Van Stuck

I was trying to move some of Lee's stuff from his little barn and after I got the trailer loaded the van just sat there with the wheels spinning in the mud. I finally unhooked the trailer and was able to get the van out. I covered the trailer with plastic drop cloth and had to leave it for another day.

New Years Day

I spent most of the day at Lee's house gathering up some of his belongings and moving them to our house.
